Can any one id Frots?

Postby lisafosc on Sat Jan 27, 2007 2:10 pm

Can any one on this site id Frontosas? As in which kind of Frontosas I have? Also one of mine has a diff number of stripes on each side, the pics of them are in the photo gallery but bad quality as I'm using a cam phone and not very good at taking pics of my tanks/fish.

I couldn't find pics of your frontosa's, can you post pics of them in this thread?

Different number of stripes, however, is usually indicative of a 6-stripe/7-stripe cross-variant (i.e., burundi X kigoma)

The one with the different number of stripes is an apparent kigoma x burundi cross variant.

The other one might be as well (cross variants don't all have an unequal number of stripes but there's a possibility of them being siblings if they were purchased from the same tank), but it could also be one of the other variants since the first stripe appears to be a mask. Post a pic of this frontosa again in about six months.

tmbsup Thanks for that. I will post again in 6 months. Not sure if they are siblings as I kinda recued them, had them for about 10 weeks now! They do have a strong emotional attatchment towards each other, as I brought one home approx four days before the other, they both sulked and when reunited were sooooo happy to see each other. They swam around pretty much entwinning for about an hour.

The larger Front often takes food, such as cockle and steak to the other fish and feeds it to her/him! I love them throw back's or not  :love4:
