Two Tiger Oscars

Postby ILLYOUNG on Tue Feb 06, 2007 8:45 pm

I have two tiger oscars in a 20 gallon tank and i just bought a brand new 55 gal tank. Once the 55 gal tank is ready what if any other fish can i put with them in their new home. Plus a quick story! I hate the people at the pet store. i bought my 55 gal tank i set it up(filter, and stress relief etc.) then went to buy some guppies to put in there for a few weeks, but the lady suggest i go head and put the oscars so i also bought a Jack D. and a alge eater. So i put all the fish in later that day that night they were fine the next day got bad. The water was fogged and the fish were at the top of the tank. i changed the water 25% it was cool for a while then the same results. Next day changed 50% after a trip to the pet store same result. After i got my new cpu and read up on some people comments i took the other fish back to the pet store and put my almost dead oscars back in there 20 gal for now. thanks

Do you have an airstone and pump? That could be why they were at the top, to try and breathe.

I think i have to many rocks in my tank. Since i've taken all the fish out i've let it sit with water in the tank and heater on i still see a layer of (dont know what it is) mess at the top of the tank. Should i remove all the rocks or wait for the filter remove the film of junk from the top of the tank.  I have a Rena Filstar xP. Is this a good filter i was told it was. Mt heater is 300w. Right now Im stuck Plz help!!! the fish can wait what do i need to do first second and last???? Its been about 2 to 3 days since i removed all the fish and set the tank back up.

if its a new tank did you wash the gravel? if you did then you should take the fish out and let your filter go to work for a day until the tank is clear and then re-introduce them using a bucket of the tank water there in now and slowely add some of the new tank water to the bucket so they can addapted and just make sure the PH levels are all good, temprature and so on.....

.....i was just wondering how big your fish are cause 55 gallons sounds a bit confined for all the fish you put in?
