Tank heaters

Does anyone have any suggestions on the type or size of water heater i should put in my 60 gallon tank?

My current tank temp is 70 degrees F. Is that too cold? or just right?

I currrently use the largest one they sell at Wal-Mart for my 60 gallon. I believe its a 150watt. It works perfect for my tank. Generally use 3-5 watts per gallon of water.

It depends on where you keep your tank Image I used like two 300W heaters for my 65gallon tank in the winter(but then I had it on my patio outside so got pretty cold sometimes..)

steer clear of hanf on back, nonsubmersible heaters.  they are obsolete, the mechanism they use as a thermostat is basically a piece of bent metal that shrinks when the water gets too cold.  When the thermostat gets old, which usually runs from a year under, your screwed unless you like have a back up heater on hand, unlikely.  Go for a submersble heater, the thermostat is electric and they usually have like at least a 15 year guarentee.
i know it sounds like i hate nonsubmersibles, i do, ive destroyed like three of them just dripping water on them during water changes.

250 watt visi-therm submersible around 30-35.00 bucks. One of the best heaters on the market lifetime warranty. Just dont forget to unplug or keep submersed when doing water changes.

I agree I have a Visitherm deluxe and I would recommend it to anyone, it is a little more expensive, but when its your fish, would you risk it with a crappy heater?

I put my heaters a bit higher during the winter, like around 79, just in case there's a down power line and the power goes out, more heat to kinda cruise on.
