My Oscar spawn

Postby TheBestBetta on Sun Jan 21, 2007 7:44 am

Got in last night and my daughter said 2 of the Oscars were acting strangely.
To my surprise they have spawned. I have removed all the other fish except for a VERY hard to catch pack of 3 clown loach, but the pair have shown them there place.
I wasn't really trying to spawn but now there here, hey why not I have loads of tank space for them.
So People the eggs are there and I'm just leaving them 2 it, What 's next.
Also I'm guessing from my betta breeding one of the Oscars gens will be dominant over the other, possibly the tigers?
Thanks for the advice Malc

Hey congrats for your Os spawning :icon_cheers: And yes i would say the Tiger's gens will probably overtake the Albino's... but then again i could be wrong!! I never interbred different color strains so i can't be 100% sure about it!

Good luck with your Os!

tmbsup
cool for you!!!
i have had experience with this as well and it is fun to watch.
so far as interbreeding i can say that it will be left up to the dominant gene.

for example.
i had a convict cichlid and a salvini that bred for me.
turned out that they produced a somewhat drabber looking(more tan)convict.

darned things bred twice and produced at least 300 little fishies for me to care for.

at a point you will need to seperate the young ones from the parents.

hope you have a tank set up

Must be the season for breeding. I have always suspected I had a breeding pair. They have nested, many times since i got them. However I have not ever seen an egg, although the wife did see Mindies ovum tube once. Mork has caudal spots so knew he was a male. Now on past occasions, I have looked for eggs, but never saw any. Since i do have pleco's, I kind of thought they might be the reason for the strange lack of eggs. Yet today, I was about to do my weekly gravel cleaning, when I looked, there they were, a pile of beige eggs. It took about two hours for the plecos to decimate the egg pile. Its funny, Mindy would let the plecos come in and eat the eggs, but any time Mork tried to come near, she would just lip lock with him, and push him out of the area. Personally for me, I am not looking for fry. I would have a hard time getting rid of the babies, and one Oscar set up is enough to look after.

Fishbait, your eggs are fertalized, unfertilized eggs are white.

Hope you and Daemon enjoy the hatching process, etc.
