Can I take a look?

Postby lisafosc on Mon Dec 11, 2006 4:39 pm

After the difficulties I have had with my tanks and after loosing my convicts, I recieved a call from my local fish store, another customer had gone in with a pair of breeding white convicts, he had also tried to take in the fry but the shop keeper refused to take the fry, however they took the convicts and then called me to tell me that they had a present for me, yep the white convicts! How nice was that! I have put them in my small tank 22 gallon, the convicts are almost 2inches. I have built them a cave which is a piece of slate on top of some driftwood, the convicts stayed in there for approx 2days refusing to come out, but today they are taking it in turns to come out and stay infront of the cave whilst the other remains inside the cave. I am wondering if they have laid eggs, would I be able to lift the slate and check or would this cause them to eat the eggs?

Just in case any one gets worried, the only other thing in the tank is a pair of small apple snails, the convicts will go into one of my larger tanks once they get a little bigger  tmbsup

I dought that they have eggs.. to soon after being moved a few times.. BUt you can look if you want to.. cons dont' really eat the eggs unless another fish is trying to get to them.. You are just looking..  IF that was true I could have really saved my self some agony of two many convict fry a few years back...
I always wanted some pink/albino/white cons.. they have different names I guess. their are some marbled ones that are just neat..  I have MORE con fry now, Auntie got under the divider and spawned with her nephew..  AS she is 3 years old and NEVER had any fry,  I let them have this NEST but the next one is a NO GO..  they are free swim now and doing good..

I NEED ANOTHER TANK!!    :fish:

Thanks for that hun,
You were right, no eggs but they were defending the cave even against me! They wouldn't budge. I'm gonna raise a batch of white cons as they are in demand, not as easy to get hold of as the black and whites, might try to raise some marbles too. Would you like me to save you a couple of white cons from my brood? Will keep them and raise them to be a good size before I find homes for them, dont mind making sure yours are a little larger if you would like them! Would be my way of saying thanks for your advice and support.

Had to put the cons in one of the cichlid community tanks last night, due to my Geophagus having some probs, so it may be a while before I can get them settled into the smaller tank to spawn!
