Blueberry Oscar?? Dyed fish or freak??

Postby mewik on Fri Nov 03, 2006 6:26 pm

Recently i went into a new fish store in my area owned by a Chinese guy and he had a "blueberry oscar", I looked like a tiger oscar except dark blue and light blue???? I have not ever seen a oscar like that in my life and he says it was like a one off thing from whereever he gets the fish...
Another guy says it must of been dyed but i have never seen a died fish that had such perfect markings, so i am a bit confused about this whole thing.

Has anyone ever seen a O like that before??

Even if it is not a dyed fish my girlfriends boss bought it and her green terror ate it  :crybaby2:, poor thing dyed or not it was a beautiful fish.

Ps: Dying fish should be banned and all the folks who do it and sell dyed fish should be castrated then taken to a field and slapped over the head with a big rotten tuna until they can no longer stand  :icon_spiderman:

Hi, Mewik.  Have to say that I agree with your sentiments re fish dyers.  The "Blueberry" Oscar is in fact a case in point.  These have dye injected under their skin.  Not the fish's fault of course, and I can respect the urge to give it a home, but buying them just reinforces the demand.

A lot of people don't understand just how many fish are dyed. Quite a lot of the tetra species sold in pet shops are dyed, pink tetras etc...
There's one species we distribute at work, it's a white fish, but we get greens, pinks, blues, purples and yellows too.

It's horrible... They dye giant gourami as well...Poor beautiful white fish.
