Hey. So your thinking about an Oscar?
Do you have a 55 gallon tank or bigger? Do you want more than one kind of fish?
If you have a 55 EMPTY tank, your ok... for ONE oscar.

Do you want more than one kind of fish?
have a 90 gallon tank, for an oscar and like 3 fish..

Sorry i wish people would do more reading about oscars, it breaks my heart, you see them YES they are cute, and very cute fish. HUGE personality. But if you dont have the proper housing? your just going to kill it in the long run or you are making 10 times more work for your self thank you need.

if you have a 55 gallon tank? thats 50% water change per week generally, just to keep the harm ful nitrites and nirtates down.

For people who want oscars, you have to be dedicated to the well being of the fish, PLEASE think about getting one before you do.
I dont want to see you do what we did! 2 oscars in a 30 gallon *they are only 4 inches long, and we're going to be buying a 120 gallon tank!! all over some stupid fish that were 5 dollars each.
PLEASE think about it.

Breeding? unless you have a 100ish or higher tank, please dont. and if you do not have the room for all the fry and are not planning on selling them please dont breed them. just think about it fully before you do it.

Good points here, but did YOU re-read what you posted?? seems if you did, YOU can correct a lot of double meanings here.. NEVER say you are Sorry in a post.. Mean what you say or dont' say anything..

Also ppl are ppl and they will do WHAT they WANT and GO on the ADVICE of a FISH STORE EMPLOYEE on the fish they want.. This can make you see DOOM for the fish, as you have been their done that AND you want to tell ppl the truth about fish keeping,, but it comes down to  :argue: and all you are going to accomplice is  :BangHead: and making ppl mad..  :cussing:

So advice the ppl who come here for advice and HELP,  that is WHY we are here.. NOT to arugue the point home.. THAT does not work..

As you are new to Oscars, you mean well,,  but you even have a long way to go with your Oscars too..

WE have all been THERE.. So dont' feel alone, YOU are not...  :icon_cheers:

There are thousands of us out their..AND hundreds more joining every day..  :love4:

I always like to use the phrase: "Been Their, Done, Saw, experienced that"!!  Because I have..  :icon_biggrin:

I'm relatively new to this hobby, I've had many tetras and danios and the acational barb, and I've bred guppies once.  I wanted an oscar to be my first cichlid.  I plan to get a 75 gallon tank for one oscar, and I've read up on what to feed them.  The thing that has been controversial is the filtration system  that each person recommends.  What do U recommend for a 75 with one growing oscar in it?  :dontknow: :tongue8:

Thanx!~!
