Weird but True

From a local paper:

A pet fish has been blamed for starting a house fire.

Kipper, an 8-inch catfish in Poole, England, apparently got into a fight with another fish and splashed water onto a nearby electric plug, sending a power surge up the tank's light cable. That burned and melted the tank's plastic lid, which dripped onto a leather couch and set it ablaze.

The fire spread quickly, and Kipper and five other fish were killed. The humans safely fled.

Weird but True

Just goes to show you can never be too carefull.

Perhaps if the circuit had been GFI (ground fault interupt) protected, it would never have happened.

Hi Lisa

A GFI. or ground fault circuit interuptor, come in two types. Either as a circuit breaker, (very expensive), or in the forum of a regular electrical outlet. The circuit breaker, of course protects all outlets on the circuit, while the plug style, protects the outlet, plus up to 4 more downline of it. Most hardware/electrical stores, maybe even walmart sell the outlet style ones. They are fairly easy to install with some basic electrical knowledge. Hope this helps, if not fell free to ask more.
