rescued and lost

Postby neovente on Sun Oct 15, 2006 7:00 pm

HI,
I just rescued/adopted about 8 Cichlid and know nothing about them besides they are fresh water fish and won't be bullied by a puffer or Gourami (I have 1 of each). What are their favorite foods (besides bloodworms) and what kind of hidey hole is best? :dontknow:

Hi, Neo, and welcome to the forum!  Any chance you could send us a photo of your new guys?  It'd sure make it easier to give you good info.

Looks like an African to me.  Don't really know much about them.  Perhaps Protomelas fenestratus (Gome).  Check this link for a comparative photo:

Or they could be convicts, and I'm just being fooled by the angle of the pic.  :icon_biggrin:

Yeah they are convicts, and if you have eight of them u will end up with thousands of them, as they spawn like rabbits!!!
What size is your tank males grow to be between 5/6 inches and females maybe an inch or two smaller, usually the males develop a nuchal lump on its head and thier fins trail back further than females. But you may need to move some on if your tank isn't big enough for them all x
