Cockroaches good for oscars?

Postby skater108 on Tue Oct 17, 2006 6:32 am

Just wanted to know if cockroaches were suitable to feed oscars, would they be nutritionaly the same as worms and other suitable insects they eat?

Hi Skater -- As far as nutritional value, I don't know. Oscars do best on a varied diet, when they are fed lots of different things. As far as danger, no problem -- I have fed my Oscars roaches for years with no ill effects. The only rule I've followed in feeding Oscars household insects is to avoid any bug that has venom, like bees, ants, scorpions etc. I don't have any documentation, but I would assume the venom to be poisonous. But there's no danger in feeding them cockroaches. Like I said, the only issue would be if you fed them only cockroaches. Cheers!  --Mark
