This is a parasite worm that forms a cyst like bump and can be treated with any paraiste med.. BUT with others in the tank, best to use Jungle Parasite Clear.. this needs to be done after you CLEAN THE TANK AND FILTER!  Remove all carbon and treat as directed.. I get these accasionally and they seem to go way with the treatment I recommended..
THIS MED WIL NOT DISTROY your BIO in the tank.. other meds may be to harsh to use and most WILL kill out what bio you have...Parasite Clear is safe and works with most external parasites... Wal-Mart has these meds..

Unsure on how they get them.. Their is always a bug/parasite in the tank water, either it stays hidden or it comes out to attach to the fish.. I have not had a problem for a while but a few weeks ago, yep, thiers one on my severums pectorial fin.. So meds.. I use Jungle and have great success with it.. Although it may take two treatments one weeks apart,.. AS I do mine anyway.. Do you have a med tank?? These cyst get on all fish so best to do the main tank.. I will get you a name for this parasite as most have them but some dont'.. I'l check on this one...

I have not found a certain name for this worm cyst.. as most are just called worm cysts.. figures.. their are several strains and pin pointing one down is almost imposible without a biopsey  being done.. So for NOW, I can't really name this but if I come across any more info I wil let you know and give you the link to so you can see for your self...

I am trying to get some outside plants in, as a freeze is due here tonight..THAT figures too as my tomatoe plants are covered with toms.. To hot this summer for them NOW it is to dang cold for them to rippen!!  this is how I feel about tomatoe plants right now... :violent1:
PS:  I have the hammer banning on the plants...

Please help, I have treated my whole tank twice with meds, to no effect, the Parasite has now turned white and there are now six rather than two! I was advised to take my convict out and try to scratch off the parasite but it didnt work, however I tried this whilst it was pink, should I try again now it is white????

NO dont' scrape them off. IF they are dead, then they wil fall off on their own.. these come and go and I have never tryed to scrape them off..You might do more damage then good... They just disappear in a week or so after treatment.. It is not a life threatening bump, so let it die and fall off on its own...

I did E-Mail you...

Ok thanks Barb, Thank you very much for the emails also. Couldn't stop myself from panicking but feel better now. Thanks.

I was worried that the cyst may burst and attach to other fish, but feel better knowing that now they are white they could be dead and simply fall off.

The med I used was suitable for getting rid of the parasites you mentioned, I have treated the whole tank twice, so I will now carry out the water changes and replace my carbon. Thanks x

Woke up this morning and my White Convict had died  :crybaby2:, I'm gutted and feel like I failed to take care of him. The white lumps were still present wish I knew what they were.

Thanks for your help Barb, I followed all of your advice and he seemed well in himself untill this morn.

I've done a full water change in my main tank and changed all of my filter medium, I disturbed my substrate as I was emptying my tank and syphoned it, but didint clean it totally as wanted to keep some bacteria. I have used a chemical in my filter to help with the bio and I will test my water daily, any other advise? I felt like disinfecting it in case there was a parasite in there waiting to get on another fish but bleach isn't good for fish lol so I didn't, but I did clean it as much as poss. I have added some melafix as I usually do when disturbing my tank in any way.

I am still treating my Acara as he got into a fight with my convict and the convict pulled part of his lip off, I am using Myxazin for this, he just has three days of treatment left.

All in all I have lost four of my fire mouths (all of them) and my White Convict, I had raised them all from tiny babies and feel like I have lost my kids, its awfull. This is the down side to keeping fish hey, looseing them when ur not entirelly sure why!!!!

Good news is that I have just bought another tank, the Jewel 400 its about 400 litres, not sure what to put in it yet tho!
