Will they continue to get on?

Postby lisafosc on Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:58 am

In my tank I have two large tin foil barbs, A red tailed cat (I know the size this fish will grow and plan to have a tank built so I can keep him as long as poss), Four Fire mouths, Two Bandit convicts, A white convict, A Port Acara, A large Plec, An tiny Leopard sail fin plec. The fish seem to be fine, they display against each other but all seem to hold thier own. I have had them all since they were tiny babies and they have grown up together (now roughly 9 months old). Will they continue to get along or will I be looking at setting up several aquariums to house them all?

This tank is HUGE!!  :toothy9:
IT is 1486.6 Liters,
392.8 US gal..
327.1 UK gal..

Your tank being this big is why they are all getting along so well.. LOTS OF ROOM!! I have a 125 gal and to me that is a big tank.. I can't even imagine the size of this one in person.. This is ONE of  my I WANT THAT Tank!!  :love4:  WOW!!  :icon_cheers:  So you can keep them in there and should not have to worry about them, OR until you want other species than what you have now.. Then you might have some problems if the same ones are stil in this tank..

So you think they will continue to get along Barb? Yeah it is a big tank n I love it but still no where near the size of the tank I will need.
I have a red tail cat, I know I wont be able to keep fprever but will have a 8ft tank for him.

As it has been 9 months?? if any problems have come you would have known about them by now.. That red tailed cat, you already said you are gettng/making a bigger tank so I was not referring to him really.. How is the spawning deal going in your tank with the cons and firemouths?? that can be a pain to the others as they try to protect their young.. So other than that, I don't see why they cant' get along.. 9 months is a long good enough time period to see how they do together..

Any pics of this tank to share?? I just redid my bottom 75 with assorted American cichlids and I like it.. only displaced about 6 gal of water with more rocks.. not bad.. :occasion14:
My site for the pics..In tanks..

Unfortunatly I have lost two of my Firemouths, I have a parasite prob. The parasite has attached to one of my convicts, I have treated the whole tank with meds. It may be a coincidence but my female firemouth became ill the same evening I added the med. I came home from work today and she has gone I'm guessing she died so my catfish ate her, the other firemouth that has vanished was very small I'm guessing Alfy (Cat fish) liked the first Firemouth so much he ate little scamp! The others are too big for him to eat alive. I'm gutted! Time to speed along the plans I have for getting the Cat fish and Tin foil tank made  :BangHead:

My tank is coing 2mo, its not the 8ft one, that will have to be made on site. So my catfish and barbs will be in there soon, leaving me space to add new fish to the tank explained above, what do you think peeps? Any ideas?

WOW wish I had that problem! I would do what my water lets me do with out bufffers to using my RO uniit.. SO that leaves only AFRICANS!! For me anyway...

what is your pH, KH/GH=hardness..

Americans like a low pH= 6.4 to 7.4 and soft water... 0dGHto 8dGH

Africans like a High pH 7.6 to 8.6 and up and HARD WATER 8dGH to 25dGH..
