30 Gal High Tank & Oscar

Postby ogar615 on Sun Oct 01, 2006 8:57 am

Hello,  I have a 30 gal high tank that i just set up and would like to get an veil tail oscar that is at our local fish store, i realize that is a small tank for the ocar but i will be upgrading to a bigger tank when he would need it. my question is what other cichlids (colorful) could i put into the tank with him so they could grow together. i saw a yellow lab there that they say would be ok. Any thoughts would help alot..............Ogar :BangHead:

With an Oscar's growth rate, probably the best idea is to hold off on getting an Oscar and tankmates until after you get the larger aquarium. If you get the Oscar now, you'll  have to upgrade within the year anyway -- he'll outgrow the 30 in less than a year. --Mark

well ogar how big is the oscar you want to get? a Oscar will grow 1 inch a month for about 7-8 months after that he will slow down so you can get him now but remember to upgrade soon at least by christmas depending on how big he is and keep the water clean the cleaner the better a parrot cichlid is a great tank mate for a Oscar just my opini :occasion14:on
