mirrored backing on tank...new oscar

Postby njoynit on Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:55 pm

I took 3 fish off neighbor to help him eliminate some of his tanks.I put one oscar looking identicale but darker& larger with mine& a orange black oscar in a hex shaped mirrored tank. He's doing Alice Cooper 'Bang your head'.I've tried turning light out& added some blue to the water(we use it for the minnows Names left mind)

1# Is he gonna figure out its NOT another fish?

2# Is the mirrored backing gonna be a problem?

I had some chiliads in the hex tank some time ago& they we're fine for around 11 yrs.my only gripe was could not use divider when they bred.

I'll try to snap some fish shots.I don't have any recent ones.My oscar useually had a problem with EATING his tank mates.....even bass& crappie that we're larger than him& he's hooked on minnows.I do have a catfish missing half his mouth in their tank& 1 crawfish(he is missing a claw)Pleco hides quiet a bit also.least he's never tried to eat me!He just swims to other end.No problem with jumping.I learned with my dempseys. We have a glass top with a wooden shelf and a speaker on top of glass w just enough room to feed.I had my dempsey crack my tank....it leaked over sons bed downstairs.<<<

Looking at the pics in your other post, I note that these are not Oscars, or even cichlids, but Pacus.  These guys are going to keep on growing, and eating, and -- I suspect -- banging the glass in that hex tank that's probably already too small for them.  I don't think the changing the background is going to help you much in this case.

Sod the pacu part......please god dont tell me you actually use the speaker on top of your tank!!!! Thats like having a grenade go off next to your head for a fish in a tank!!!

Do us all a favour and rather use a brick....... :violent1:
