hi im new to this board, i've had my oscar for about a month since i bought it from the pet store.

i was wondering what makes my oscar turn color?
it's a red oscar(blackish redish, some brown), it changes color(pale, light brown) and when he turns to that lighter color it seems a bit shy and slow.

what causes it? its it bad?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!  The color changing is very normal in Oscars.  They're very expressive through color of their mood and state of health.  Watch them, and they'll pretty much tell you how they're doing. 

Tell us about your O!  How long have you had him?  How big is he?  What size tank is he in?  Any tank-mates?
