Tiger Oscars, always with red?

Postby Animaltalker on Thu Aug 10, 2006 8:42 pm

Hi everyone..

Do all "black" or "regular" Oscars have orange or red on them?  Do they start out as black and white and then later on develop the orange coloration?  What is the difference between a red tiger and a tiger?  Thanks so much.

Bear in mind that the various color variants of Oscars are selectively bred for -- therefore, with the number of people breeding Oscars you don't necessarily have consistency with the color morphs.  Having said that, the common understanding is that "tiger" refers to the striped markings, and "red tiger" refers to a fish with red color and striped markings.  I have 2 red tigers -- one of them was "red" immediately, the other started off gray with the tiger striped, but started turning red a few month after I bought him.
