There are arguments for and against. Main value of feeders is entertainment for the fishkeeper. Main risk is introduction of disease or parasite (it happens!). Pellets are best choice as a staple diet. You can supplement with crickets, mealworms (both available at pet stores), freeze-dried krill, frozen prawns, silversides, stray wandering bugs, etc. These things all function best as treats, with the main diet being one or more varieties of high-quality pellets.
