Have noticed a sudden influx of Cichla ocellaris in several local lfs's. They're usually in tanks with other SA's, and labelled "lukanini" or some spelling variant of that. Not terribly expensive, either. A bit sobering. I guess we've all become inured to seeing hundreds of baby Oscars & JD's bound for someone's 10 or 20 gallon tank. Somehow this seems more -- I don' know -- surprising? Also seeing a lot of young Red Terrors. What's the world coming to?

<-- Asian farmed. It's catching on more so more are avalible and cheaper.

I can't wait to see what happens to the majority in a few years when they're huge monsters.

<-- ecuador farmed, tis the season.(next month should be green terror flood) Look around and you'll see alot more expensive large ones labeled as wild fish too :redlaugh: , even though they've lived life in pens

I just had a peacock bass special ordered, and he was about an inch long, and only three dollars. It was supposed to ocme from florida but the farm raised sound more likely.

Probally did come from florida before the store. Florida's the middlemen for 95% of tropical fish.

hi.

in my last visit to some petstore here in Manila City Philippines, i've also noticed this peacock bass which is sold for P200 or $4. i even think of getting 6 to 8. good think i first made a research on this gorgeous fish and i've learned that this peacock bass is not an aquarium fish for they grow large enough not for aquarium. so i let go of the idea of having some of them. but i still look at them whenever i visit a petstore and still admire them.

if i decided to have 2, may u advise me as to where i may house them.

thanks.

Have a lake? Seriously, these guys get REALLY big if you can keep them alive long enough. Having gone the really big route, I recommend against. Fun for awhile, but keeping up with the water quality gets to be a chore as they start to grow up. They can also be tricky to feed -- they like live, moving food, and can be stubborn about prepared foods. IMO you'd eventually need a tank in the hundreds of gallons -- most likely 7 feet or more -- to really do them justice. I grant you though, they are gorgeous fish!
