Fish

Hi,
I have an established 53 gal hex. I'm not sure of the size of the filter, but I remember that it was bigger than I needed. It's a Cascade filter. What started out as a community tank has changed it's profile and I want to check with you guys before I make mistakes. I currently have:

2 3" green severens
1 5" gold severen
1 4" silver dollar
1 striped cat
3 harlequin

It was suggest that I put a parrot in. I'd like to put some angels in. Is this an O.K. mix of fish? Do you have suggestions for additions? How many fish inches should I have? I have fine gravel in the bottom of the tank. I never change the filter because I don't want another flood.

Fish

A lot of us can relate to your "flood" concerns. A little bit of inattention -- a lot of mopping!

For a 53 gallon tank I believe you're about maxed out on fish. Those severums will grow a lot larger than they are right now. Angelfish like a little more peace & quiet than they'll get being in that kind of space with severums. The parrot adds another fairly large, aggressive fish to the mix, and is likely to fight with the severums. IMO not a good idea. Before adding any new fish, I'd suggest waiting till everyone grows up a little more, so that you'll see what you're really working with. Enjoy!
