Holes in my Oscar

Postby mptshoe on Sun Dec 17, 2000 12:01 am

My Oscar has a small(2mm-3mm)round hole between its eyes. I have seen this on other oscars and I'm wondering what it is. There is no redness just a hole in the epidermis. When seen on other oscars it was much worse, covering larger portions of the head. If you know what it is or how to treat it please let me know.

Yep, sounds like could be HITH, so get some hole-in-the-head treatment and some general antibiotics etc....very important is CLEAN WATER.....get rid of nitrites/nitrates and ammonia....freqeunt water changes, might want to take out activeated carbone for awhile if you're using it.

Holes in my Oscar

I had to treat this very thing recently. Make sure that you do frequent water changes and try to get the water quality back first. If that is not helping, try adding aquarium salt and raising your temperature to 80 degrees - remember to do it gradually.

If that doesn't work, try Hex-A-Mit. I tried treating with frequent water changes, but that didn't help. When I increased the temp, added salt, and medicated with Hex-A-Mit, the HITH cleared right up. Remember though that you shouldn't do a lot of water changing while medicating though or you're diluting the medication. That is one reason why it is good to try to get the water cleared up first.

Good luck!
