Most likely metronidazole or a mixture with that drug in it.
That stuff only tagets hexamita that often takes advantage of a cichlid with hole in the head/lateral line errosion and is not the cause despite manufactures claims etc.

Have a read of this treatment..

Im not 100% sure on brand names(in australia) but if the fish isnt infested with hexamita then these meds are just a waste of time.

Most certainly but ensure the water is well areated and you follow directions carefully.

I would consider the treatment in that article I posted earlier and see how it goes,,unfortunatly the scaring from HITH/LLE can take a long time to heal and in some cases the scars dont heal at all depending on how long and how sevre it is

HITH suggestion

Postby RenoBob on Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:42 am

I tried everything I could think of to get rid of HITH in an old Oscar I had nearly 10 years ago. Finally someone suggested taking all the activated charcoal out of any filtration systems I was using. I had a Magnum 350 that was supposed to be twice as much filtration for my 50 gallon tank. Needless to say it uses ALOT of charcoal. Well it worked and I mean quickly. The HITH cleared up in a matter of weeks and left hardly any noticeable scarring. I'm not sure how the charcoal triggers the reaction in this type of case but I was conviced it did. By the way, I didn't waste the space in the filter. I filled it with porcelin bio media that supposedly adds another place for beneficial bacteria to flourish. My water is crystal clear now and I have about a 4 year old Oscar that seems pretty happy with his setup.

Yeah carbon is related to HITh and one of the biggest suspected contributers to the symptons... I believe mostly from the carbon dust(some people dont rinse it at all) and the fact that most carbon has a life span of a few weeks to a month at most and then runs the big risk of leaching back into the tank what its drawn out,,,
IMO its only good for clearing medicines and not much more.
