You have time to get another tank..IF something happens within the 6 mos time, try a 75 gal tank.. this is a great size tank for most cichlids but NOT the big tank busters some like to say, Oscars, RD, Midas, Jags..They can do good in this tank for a year maybe, but then you are going to have the same problem...the need for a bigger tank..Keep the 35 gal for other cichlids and raising fry when the time comes.. I would like to caution you on Red Devils and the Jags..these do good for a while with OTHER cichlids, but soon, they start to bully if not KILL the other tank mates..Some Texans are nice, some are having problems with theirs.. Most of these need their own tanks at this time..75 to 125 gal are best if not bigger..As they need to be alone, that is alot of tank for ONE cichlid..I have seen a family of 6 or more adult to juvenile 6" Midas and RD in a 220 gal tank, doing just fine..BUT a 220 gal tank is HUGE! So they have room to spread out and as they are raised together, it works out OK.. I have NO idea what he does when it is spawing time..This is what can take a tanquile tank and turn into a killing tank... Please do more research on the cichlids you would like to keep BEFORE you buy them.. As you and your wife get into cichlids, you will find a great satisfaction in many that you keep and others that you wish you NEVER got!!
