Camallanus worm treatment

Postby Scorpi-O on Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:53 pm

Has anyone had to treat for Camallanus worms???

I've tried Pipzine (Piperazene Citrate) - it had no effect.
Levamisole Hydrochloride is not available.
Medications with Fenbendazole are either too weak in concentration or prohibitively expensive.

I can get Ivermectin (10%) from my Vet, but neither of us have any idea of the dosage to use.

Can anybody help...please?

Camallanus worm treatment

I am unsure on the dose you need to use on the meds suggested by the vet.. but this place recommends a certain med and they do sell to us hobbyist. If you can't wait for the meds then maybe they can help you with the other meds you have access to.. They do have a help line so you can talk with a knowledgable person and maybe they can advise you on a dose..
the number is at the top...

Also skip down to the end for your problem...Great site, but these meds have to be bought through them...

Camallanus worm treatment

HI Scorpio

This is a nasty worm, not only do you have to kill it, itmust be done with an agent that lets the dead worm pass from the fish's intestine. I don't know of a dose for Ivermectin, but Levamisole
is available through mail order. Now I am pretty sure you wouldn't get it in time, however. I hope you have isolated the fish, and disenfrected the main tank. These guys can quickly wipe out a tank. I dug up an artical. I haven't had time to read it, but there might be something in it to help you. I am just heading out, and won't be back for a few days so, hope this can help.
