to many fish?

Postby trina4305 on Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:56 pm

I have a 55 gallon tank and i have a dinosaur eel, a tiger oscar, a albino oscar, a convict, a fire mouth, a hybrid(?) a chelcus? shark, and either a green terror or jack dempsey i'm not sure which one. There all about two inches long except the eel, the fire mouth is about and so is the hybrid and the shark is about four inches. They all get along just fine now but will that be the same when they get older?

mmm not really a case of who will get along its kinda case of who will die first, very soon.
Sorry to be blunt but your realy gonna need to get rid of most or get a large tank.
Whats your favourite? We could tell you what you could possibly keep in there.

Why will they die? we've had all of them for over a month and we haven't had any problems yet except we had two convicts but we had to trade one in because he was attacking the other fish other then that we haven't had any problems.

The 2 oscars need at the very least a 75 gallon and eve n then they should have be in a 100g IMO.
Green terror or Jack Dempsey(whatever you think you have) will get to simular size eventuallly too and are more aggressive, the firemouth and convict might survive being snacks down the track if the bad water conditions caused by overcrowding the tank doesant kill them first.

In all honesty those fish are ok "now" but a month is hardley anything to go by.

Im not trying to give you a hard time but you seriously need to reduce numbers in that tank... Its really only suitable for one oscar and maybe the eel (not sure on that type of eel though) as a minimum....

thanks for letting me know. i have one more question the two oscars stick together alot and we got them from two different places. i was just wondering if thats like a male/female type thing because my boyfriends mom said that if you don't get them from the same tank they wont get along. but the tiger oscar is always swimming around the albino, it usually swims underneath it back and forth.

As babies oscars get along, if they form a breeding pair they will usually get along ok,, if they end being 2 males then they may fight a lot. Oscars tend to have their own personalities so its not always easyy to say how they wil get along
