MY advice on the high temps and bacteria STANDS!! Meds take care of this.. their are GRAM positive and GRAM negitive strands of bacterial/fungus.. So if you dont' know what you are dealing with, you can make a mild case a bad case fast....

I am not a professional by far, but I know more than you guys any day..

IT all boils down to this: YOUR OSCAR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SICK IF YOU HAD MAINTAINED THIS TANK!!

Starvros stateded HE has a feeder tank but went and got the goldfish from a store with ICH! BAD choice...

Oscars can go weeks with out food.. HE would not have starved.. Sick fish dont' eat, DO YOU when you are sick??

YES high temps deplete the oxygen in the tank.. I did not stress that as AT THE time, IN early MARCH it was not a factor..

HIgh temps kicked in his metrobolic abiltiy to help him get better.. But to high and it could have backfired on you...

HIGH temps WIL NOT MAKE HIM GROW FASTER!! Do you stand out in the hot sun daily and grow?? Good food as in GOOD NUTRITION IS THE KEY HERE for better color/growth.. Come on here,, get that temp down!!

SALT IS AN IRRATANT NOT a cure all.. This makes them shed regenerate their slime coats faster, Slime coats are their to protect them from illness and parasites (most anyway,, ICH being an exception)

Salt and HIGH temps does not help with a fungus/bacterial problem that I Know of.. SOME Parasities YES..

Salt is a directic, meaning causing fluid loss, EVEN in fish, he wil dehydrate. Fish drink their water and this is why you dont' want a LOT of salt in the tank for a LONG period of time.

LOTS OF SMALL WATER CHANGES NOW WITH NO SALT IS GREATLY NEEDED....

YOUR water changes helped you here more than anything.. Keeping the tank/filter CLEANER is the key here..

PS: NO more feeders.. Hopefully you wil take THAT advice..

didnt use mila or prima fix....i used antibiotics. and i dont claim to know more than others like u do, i only say what has worked for me and high temps worked for me....you told me not to and almost killed my figh so shows what u know!..............have a nice day.....no hard fellings barb tmbsup

how many times do i have to tell you PEEPS!!!!!!!!! that his tank is always well airrated no matter what the temp. and always maintained................and u can stand on any point u like cause fish do grow faster in warmer climates......i have learned from my own experiences.....my way works for me and your way works for u

u say that 32 degrees celcius is to high, well guess what hes still alive and very healthy in that temprature for like 2 months know.....so i guess ur wrong on that one......but wait a minute u know more than me :laughing7:

keep it real barb for i bow down and am in awe of ur great knowledge on the subject. for u are the most knowlegable person(or peep) that i have encountered! godbless :angel9:

One thing that I DO know for sure is that every individual fish has it's own personality, and physical reactions to it's environment. Sure there are constants, however........

Here is something that really blew my mind, I was given 4 (Very Large) Tinfoil Barbs and put them in my 180 gallon, the smaller one took a quick turn for the worse, I found it laying on the bottom breathing very rapidly, and when it tried to swim it had NO balance or direction. There were patches of white, and what looked a bit like fin rot, I put it in a 30 gallon tank with some salt and melefix. Any time I have ever seen a fish swimming and breathing like that it was beyond hope. I was going to put it out of its misery but I got called away for a couple of days, when I got home it actually had some control, and is getting stronger every day.

After learning about water quality I also think it is just as important to really get to know your fish so you can spot problems alot sooner.
