Getting them to tango...

Platy

I am trying to show my Granddaughter about breeding fish. I have 10 Platys (3 male, 7 female) in a 10 gal tank.

I think I read somewherre that Platys do not eat the fry when they are born. Is that true?

We keep watching for little fish but haven't found any yet. I am beginning to think they are all eaten before we can see them.

Been a long time since I kept Platies. I don't recall them eating their fry, but we had others in the tank who would. Just for safety's sake I'd put a stack of marbles (you could still afford them then) in one of the corners, and the fry would hide out in there until they got a little bigger.

Thanks DanRad!

I use marbles instead of gravel in all of my breeder tanks. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find marbles today? Wish I would have kept my marble bag!

I am pretty sure the parents will not eat the fry, I'm just concerned about the other Platys in the tank. I guess time will tell.
