They get about 8-10" long they'll eat little fish, so I wouldn't put them with anything to small. most cichlids are good with these cats. Or any other community fish that cant fit in his mouth.

yah, they're pretty good with cichlids in a big tank. i had 1 oscar in a 55 with 3 of these and they didnt do anything..too scared. anways, they should be kept in a group, its a lot better looking and it probably helps the fish. i think pictus cats get around 6"...whereas the 3 or 4-lined pim cats get around 8-19 inches

in captivity, one would assume, it'd take a lot of water for a channel cat to grow to its full potential.

actualy fish will still grow to there potensial in less water, or die trying. When fish are put into tanks that are to small they may seem to grow slower but what is realy happening is there skin has stopped growing but the ogans haven't. This eventualy leads to serious deformitys, and eventualy death. Another thing that commonly happens to fish that are put into tanks that are to small is that they produce to much waist for the tank to handle, and the poor water quality kills the fish.
So it is partly true that fish won't reach there full length in a small aquarium because they die before they do. They still do usualy get way to big for the aquarium before dieing though.

No but there should be. People only reconize mamales, large birds, and large reptiles as animals, everything else is just products.

truth is, if there was any animal cruelity rights for fish, there will probably be only 1 left in a local region, and it would probably cost around 10 bucks to buy a baby convict.
is there any fish store that gives every oscar its own 55 gallon tank? or every tank its own personal filter?
if there is, it gotta be expeeennnsive.

At least they don't stay long in the tanks in the fish stores usually. I think its sadder to see large fish in the small fish store tanks because they out-grew home aquariums. Then often times they just end up going to another too small home tank. Unfortunately, thats a way of life for too many animal species. They look so cute and irrisistable when they're small or babies and people don't consider that one day they will be large adults. Owning any animal, fish included, requires a commitment to care for it in the way it needs to be cared for, for whatever period of time its lifespan is expected to be.
