Picky Oscars

Postby JayAndChamp on Fri May 04, 2007 8:13 am

Are oscars known for being picky?  My oscars love blood worms but when i give them Krill they just pick at it and spit most of it out.  Just wondering if I have some picky fish on my hands or is just there personality.

Yes, Oscars can be picky -- sometimes it takes a little experimentation to discover what they will eat. Expensive proposition, I guess ;D. Some Oscar keepers will simply continue to feed them the item they don't like under the reasoning that if faced with starvation they will eat it eventually. However, what you are experiencing is normal Oscar behaviour. --Mark

I would be carefull with the blood worms, for some reason Cichlids have a tendancy to get sick and die if they have bloodworms regularly.  I feed my guys alot of chopped up (rinsed off) steak, if they get tired of it then I'll cook it for a change.
