pH, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, alkaline levels...

Postby Vaulen on Sat Jun 11, 2005 9:37 pm

Because the death of my plecostomus was rahter nerving, I think I want to buy some testing equipment as DanRad posted. I've seen 5 in one strips and stuff like that, so I can find the testing equipment fine; however, I don't know how to treat the water if there is a problem. What are some products that I can get that will treat these chemical, pH, etc. levels? I get overwhelmed when I see all of the products you can buy. Thanks

Buy declorinator - if your water needs it

The best thing you can buy is a good filter.
The best thing you can do is water changes.

The next best thing to do is not waste your money on chemical garbage you or your fish don't need.

PH <--- is a big overexagerated MYTH! If your fish are alive in a ph different from whats "reccomended", as long as the PH is stable leave it alone. Stable PH is better then always trying to adjust it and I say always because thats how chemical adjusters work - add this, add that - never ending cycle.

Marketing :( The more you think you need, the more money someone gets out of you.

I agree totally with stillearin. I fell into the trap and had the water in my tank so screwed up it took me almost 6 moths to get it straightened out.

When you have a water problem it's not what you put in that will help, it's what you take out.

The best investment I have ever made in this hobby was for the best filter I could find.
