Penquin 330's

Postby jbarber on Fri Jan 14, 2005 2:17 pm

I was sent an e-mail by someone I know who told me that the Penquin 330's are being discontinued or are being replaced. I just made an investment about a month ago in 2 of these filters for my 75 gallon tank and am now worried. Is this rumor true and if it is will I still be able to buy the cartriges for my filters?

I know some of you use this filter just let me know if someone is blowing smoke up my butt or I should start looking for a new filter system.

I'm a little behind, haven't had time to read up fully on this years new stuff :( (been busy in my fishroom) but I think the 330 is just being replaced by another model (350 might be the new one)

The filter inserts will still be avaliable because the body size should stay the same.

If not they'll probally still make the cartridges because the older 160's plus the 170's and 330's all take the same cartridges.

Some of the aquatec and other filters also take the same cartridges and a few companies besides marieland currently make them.

I went out spent the money and got 2 penquin 350's they are head and shoulders better than the 330's. They are well worth the money.

Penquin 330's

To me they just seem like they are better built and they definitely go through more gallons per hour. The box says the 350 goes through 350 gph and you can guess how many gph the 330 has. Personally I believe the difference is even greater than that. The Bio wheels on the 350 dont seem like they go on the filter unit as flimsy. On the 330 the wheel sit on this triangular piece of plastic which fits on the unit and on the 350 the wheel just sits in a notch. All in all what I'm trying to say is the bio wheels move faster and come into contact with more water. The 350's bio wheels also have more pleats (I think thats what they're called)I dont know if that really makes a difference but I can see why they made the 350. On the 350 it also gives you the ability to use two cartiges on both sides instead of just one. If you have oscars like me you'd like that idea. Of course get ready to spend more money on the replacement carts. Take a look into it, I think it'll be worth the money.
