Any thoughts on how this stacks up against some of the other brands filters. I would like to know the best filter money can buy and also the best for your buck. Thanks!

I'm not sure if they've changed or not (don't think so though) but I have a few I bought around 94-95 that are still running flawless and at least 2 still have the original impellers - good filters!

I would have to say biggest bang for your buck would be the aquaclear 500 sold at http://www.bigalsonline.com its only $30 and you really can't beat that because they are reliable( I have two going on 3 years that have not had a single problem) and they are very quite. They also push a lot of water and are good for messy cichlid tanks.
As for the best filter you can buy, that depends on what you are looking for. If you looking to really clean the water I would say a micron canister filter, its really good to mix them to get the benifit of all of them.

Does the Auquclear offer Biological Filtration, something comparable to the Bio Wheel? Also, what do you think about throwing balled up fishing line in the filter as extra media? I've been saving my old fishing line to recycle for years and would like to put it to good use... Any concerns about toxicity, ect?
