Overcrowding?

Postby amy5335 on Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:42 pm

I have a 150 gallon tank. I had 2 Oscar's. My one Tiger Oscar is terrible. She beats up my red Oscar terribly. My Red hides all day in the plants. He has a deformed lip, and a bump on his lip. He has rips and tears all over. I was at wits end.

I just got another Tiger Oscar that is bigger. I thought maybe if she's not the biggest anymore that she'll stop. She has a little. She's busy with the new Oscar.

The guy I got her from says he has a pair of Albino's that are almost full grown. He said maybe if I put them in it will help. They will put her in her place and make her stop.

I am considering it, but I don't want to crowd them way too much. He said his Oscar's are very docile and don't fight much, but will stand up if threatened.

We keep the tank clean and in the proper conditions with Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia and such.

I don't want my Red to die because of this evil Tiger oscar. I just want her to stop being so aggresive. Maybe it's her personality. I have a little Convict in there and she doesn't touch him. They are friends. They swim together and stuff.

Help please!

5 O's in a 150 gallon is a bit much.....  I had 5 for a while in my 130 gallon with an 18" Albino Channel cat,  my problem wasn't ammonia, it was the nitrate, and they were starting to get on each others nerves, I gave my 2 smaller (9") ones to a friend that had a 75 gallon.  BIG mistake......  they put them in a 30 gallon so they could clean up their 75 and move the few small fish out, (If I knew that I wouldn't have given them), I warned them that although they are very docile, move them within a day or so.........  I ran into the lady in a store a couple of weeks ago and she tells me that they started fighting and one of them died, and they have no idea why !!!!!!!  Then she told me that they still have them in the 30 (this is 2 months later!!!!!)..... DUHH!!!  They are now considering giving him back to me......  I should have demanded him back.........

I think your girl just doesn't like him, there is not much you can do about that except make a decision about seperating them.....

Actually since I put the new O in there, she's calmed down quite a lot. The new one doesn't let her push him around too much and will push back. Which shocks her, it was quite funny the first time.  :laughing7:

Some people! Yes you should have demanded him back right then.

Cool.......  glad to hear that......  It's kind of funny with mine because once in a while a Cichlid in my other tank will become a bit aggressive,  I throw it in with the Oscars for a while and it smartens up.
