I agree. It would depend on the fish. Every fish's personality is different.

Its true, most people dont believe you when you say it depends on the fishes personality, but that really is true!

yea i have a a 7inch jack dempsey and hes not as aggressive as people make them sound..hes tuff but not as tuff as my 4 inch red devil

That really doesn't surprise me! 

It depends on the fish's personality but i have seen some pretty bad tempered Green Terrors!

A GT is mostlikely going to kill you oscar or stess him to death. Gt is a bit smaller and more agile,and in most cases oscars get bigger,slower and clumpsy.[Depending on tank size]. I personally wouldnt mix the too again after what i seen. Personality is the biggest issue as others have stated above.

For the most part, a GT won't be overly aggressive... the only fish out of the 3 that could live for life in a 40gal tank would be the dempsey. Just the oscar alone will reach up to or over 14" long...so a 72/75 gal tank just for it would be the way to go.
For the most part, pikes will get too large for a 40gal, same with a texas or black belt..and all 3 would be more aggressive than a green terror (not sure on the pike for aggro behavior).
Going with female fish might be an idea, but it is pretty much impossible to sex an oscar unless you vent it. The dempsey and GT will show some some signs of sex, but not until they are 3-4" long or larger.

I had to 'protect' my oscars from a much smaller than them red 'Devil' (true to his name), ended up putting in a tank divider (screen mesh).

I like oscars better.

I do not know how many times I've known this before, thanks for the info I have found so many sites have never found such good information
