yup thats an oscar they are all pigs, they will beg and beg for food, but that doesnt mean to give it to them feed them once aday or twice a day and you dont have to stuff him . a fish can go 3 days betwween feedings if they had too hes fine. Oscars are just smart and they like to try to manipulate us lol

The more you feed him, the more he'll eat. And the more he'll grow! They grow very quickly on live food, but try to give him some things other than live food or you'll end up with a picky eater!! Try something like pellets in the morning, and fish in the evenings. And yes, if he doesn't eat them al before you turn out the lights, don't worry, he'll find them in the dark! I've gone to bed with a load of fish in the tank only to wake up the next day to 1 or 2 if any! Have fun!

Also, I don't know how much you are paying for guppies, but they sell rosy reds in the fish stores as well as small goldfish for like 12 cents each. When he get's bigger and eats the large fish as mine do, they can cost anywhere from 15-25 cents each!!

I think oscars have an advantage over the goldfish in the dark. I think they can see better than the goldfish...think it makes them an easier catch

My oscar also LOVES crickets! And moths and flies, and pretty much anything we kill around the house... My hubby was feeding him yellow jackets one day!! Then after countless warnings from me, one stung him in the mouth. (the fish that is) He was in pain for an hour! Just sat there gaping and once in a while thrashed about a bit. He won't eat yellow jackets anymore! In fact, he's even little hesitant about crickets now, but once he sees that it's not a bee....CHOMP!!!

Oh, you know what he's doing tonight? It's SOOO funny. I have Halloween window clings on his tank. Just small ones and mostly in the corners, but he keeps attacking them! I think he thinks they are food or something!
I told you guys he was weird!! LOL

Guppies are healthy for O's, goldfish, especially feeders bought from a store, are almost completely devoid of any nutrients.  and they can spread disease to your O.

Just breed guppies for your live food, and use live food as a supplement, not a staple
