I have 2 tanks in my room. both are 55 gallon. One tank has an Oscar named FatBastard ( 8-9 inches)who is one years old. His tank buddies are 1 african cichlid, 2 south american cichlids, 1 pleco , and one 1 catfish. He is a hoss. My other tank is also a 55 gal. i have 2 REAL Albino Oscar, White-Trash, and Punk *** ***** ( about 3-4 inches). My mom spent like 40 dollars on cichlids, she bought 4 and put them in the tank. Im afraid that the Baby Oscars will destroy the cichlids. Is their anything i can do to keep my investment, while also keeping the cichlids alive? What should i do?

Hi Chris,

Well, you do know that Oscars are Cichlids also right? Anyway, I must warn you that Oscars can get pretty violent when they're around 5" inches or so. If you see signs of dangerous aggression I would recommend using a divider in the tank to separate the oscars from the other fish if you're worried they're not big and/or aggressive enough to defend themselves. I've had to use tank dividers many times, usually I used a home made divider of screen door wire-mesh with frame for it made from plastic tubing. But usually I was saving the oscars from each other Image

Hehehe...I like you Hip! Hey Chris, BTW what kind of african cichlids do you have? Do you know the common or scientific name of them. If not there are some good spots online where you can compare them to with excellent pics and determine what you have. It is kinda of difficult to try to decribe them online and try to determine what you have though. Some do grow as large as O's so give us a shout if you know what kind they are.
