Not Looking good

Postby Blue_Alien on Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:20 pm

My Red tiger Oscar is about 2 inches big and it hasn't been eating and has been pooping alot the last three days and it seems to be breathing heavily and opening its mouth all the way when it breaths. My other tiger oscar is doing fine though I was just wondering if if this is normal and if hes going to be ok?

Can you give us a little more info?  How long have you had your Oscars?   Do they have any tankmates?  What sort of filtration are you using, and how much and often do you change water?

It would also help to know a little bit about their water conditions.  I'm assuming you have a water test kit.  If not, your lfs will likely be glad to test it for you.  Essential info includes readings of:

ammonia (should read 0)
nitrite (should also read 0)
nitrate (20ppm is good, 40 or over is a concern)
pH reading would also be of interest.

Let us know.  Good luck!

Ya they were all within normal limits. I found out from my friends mom when i was waiting in line at the high school to get our books I was talking about to her because they have oscars that my oscar had ICK. So I returned the dead oscar and got some stuff to treat the water so the other fish dont get it.
