New Oscars!

Postby Mark Stone on Mon Oct 09, 2006 1:18 am

The "West Bank" has turned into one small (55 US Gal) aquarium. (It used to be 4 55s, stacked in pairs along the west wall of my home -- hence the name "West Bank")Starting out with two baby Oscars, both of them about an inch! They are already full of personality. Whenever I've started Oscars before, they have always spent their first couple of days hiding in corners, etc. Not these guys, they're out and about already, eating like little hogs and flashing their fins at each other. Their names are Peanut Butter and Jelly -- PB&J -- Peanut Butter is a Tiger and Jelly is a red without the caudal spot. Filtration for this home of theirs is a Penguin 200 bio-wheel power filter and a Magnum H.O.T. canister with the Bio-Pro attachment. I've filled it with plastic plants so they have something to do (dragging plants around) when there's no food present. I'll keep you updated -- and NO, there will be no pictures forthcoming. I'm still bitter about not winning the March 2005 photo contest  ;D Folks, there ain't NOTHIN like new baby Oscars! :love4:

Congrats, Mark!  I know I'm tempted every time I walk into a fish shop and the small Oscars rush up to the glass.  So did the old West Bank get annexed, or what?

Hi DanRad -- I live in a small casa. After I retire (in 8-1/2 years) I may go multiple tanks again, but right now it's better to just have one :icon_biggrin:. I have a lot of grandchild visits, a lot of relatives, etc. and it's just not practical for our living room to be a "fish room" now.

Sounds like you are on the right track, a bigger tank will help with its attitude. Is it just sitting on the bottom? If so they usually do this when they are unhappy about something, oscars pout. Is there anything else in the tank with it?
