New Addition

I am looking at adding a new addition to the family. A 3 week old female capuchin monkey. What can I say I like exotic things. I know it is not related to fish but it may be though if the ever decides to go fishing in my tanks. Im getting pretty excited.

I'm waiting until she is 2 months so she gets her first round of immunizations. They get the same set at the same frequency as human infants do. Strange huh. MMR, diptheria, influenza, ect. She will also get a TB test done before I recieve her. I want to make sure all the basis are covered first. I would hate to get her and then she end up getting sick from us. Its also safer to ship her at 2 months of age vs a couple weeks.

How much is this all costing?

This might sound like a stupid question but do you yanks really train monkeys to help old people with their day to day tasks like on TV or is that crap?

The monkey is being shipped from Indiana, USA

And to answere tony's question generally no. If not properly trained they can be aggressive. Not to mention they require a lot of care themselves. If someone needs assisstance with living how are they supost to be able to change diapers, specially prepare their food, and take them to a specialized vet (mine is 4 hours away) if they cant drive? Not to mention the infants need to be bottle fed every 2 hours. Make sense? 4,000.00$

We do have quite afew people that utilize therapy dogs though. They can be trained to let you know of an approaching seizure, changing glucose levels in diabetics, and even to speed dial 911. As well as open doors, retrieve objects (like remote controls or phones), as well as "lead" you if you are blind. I wonder how dogs can stop at stop signs if they are colored blind?

I saw a special about using monkeys to help old people, but it didn't say who takes care of the monkey. I did say that the monkeys could even microwave food or take food out of the fridge so mabey the monkey can take care of itself. I do know that they only use monkeys that have been trained for about 10 years. I doubt that many people do this.
