My Tigers? Help Plz!!!

Postby ILLYOUNG on Fri Feb 09, 2007 6:23 pm

Can someone tell me how old or how big my tiger Oscars will have to be to get pregnant. Right now they are about    1 inch to 3inches. I bought them together a bit smaller than they are now. One is darker than the other by a huge amount. I am a new 55 gal owner and i put the O's in there with a few other fish, but was forced to take them out because the tank was not ready yet. I then put them back into their 20 gal tank. After 3 days, today i noticed after feeding some frozen shrimp that the lighter Oscars belly was nice and round. Is she ready to have babies already? She has been hiding out and kind of laying down inside a rock, until i come closer then she moves like any other time. She eats pretty good while the other Oscar waits and looks around, as if looking for something different to eat. He did this with both pellets and shrimp. help plz!!!!

I'm pretty sure they don't get pregnant. They lay eggs.

Your Oscars are WAY to young to even think about spawning OR to tell Male/female.. So you have NO worries for at lest another 7 mos or so.. They can start to spawn,, NOT BREED,  at 7 to 8"..

For your Osacars to have a nice tank and healthy conditions, they are going to need a tank at LEST 75 gal or more at THERE ADULT SIZE OF 10" TO 13".. that is in a YEARS time from now, but maybe sooner depending on how fast they grow...Double the filteration is also needed at this time..

ON your post in the memeber intro, I would say when you added in your gravel, you did not RINSE IT OFF good..
Just net it out as best you can.. this should get the floating particals out...You wil need a FINE NET to do so.. Meaning a very close nitted net... YOUR filter should so the rest..

ANY qestions just ask..  :toothy9:

its possible that she is ready to lay eggs, but not likely at such a young age,and even if she does lay eggs there is no garentee that one of the other oscars is male and if he is there is no garantee that he will fertalise these eggs....youll just have to wait and see
