My poor Tiger!!!!

Postby oceanboy7 on Fri Mar 29, 2002 2:31 am

OK, my tiger Oscar got caught in in this stupidrock thing that is now removed from his tank, and as I tried to get him out he pannicked, and scrapped his sides. What it looks like is missing scales, like 12 on each side. He is in a fifty gallon tank, and has two penquin bio wheels 340 gph each, and his water is at 78 degrees, and I have added salt, should I be concerned about anything like fungal, or bacteria infections, and will his scales grow back????? The poor little guy. He seems ok, and healthy, but its sad to see his missing scales, and I feel terrible for him. Please help. We love him, and try so hard to keep him happy. Thank you mucho!

dont panic... these guys are very hardy. turn the temp up just a tad bit and the salt should prevent any bacterial or fungal infection. it might not look good for a few days, but it should be able to eat and eeverything within that time. the scales will also grow back probably in a month...

keep the water very clean until it has healed

Thank you so much D.M. I really apreciate the info. I never dreamed that keeping a fish could be so complicated, and of corse now I have him, and am comitted. I am so glad that he will be ok, and that his scales will grow back. He is a beautiful fish. Ok, but when you say, "turn the heat up", how high do you suggest? Its at 78 degrees now. Thanks again for the infomation! Big relief, and I am so glad this web site exists.....

For what it is worth, we use "Melafix" to help our O's heal. Works for stuff like "ICH" too.
