My fish are continually getting sick

Postby lstevenson on Thu May 01, 2008 2:18 pm

I have had African cichlid fish for many months now and I have been noticing a gradual decline in the health of my fish. The first problem was with a fungus problem and the fish was covered with white (not ich) and now I'm noticing that the fins of my fish are extremely deteriorated and chewed-up looking. One fish lost the entire back fin!!!! I have treated for the fungus, but I can’t seem to figure out what this problem is.

Please help, I am losing all my fish! Does anyone know what this is or how to help?

Tank size: 25 gallon
6 fish
All water tests seem to be at normal levels

Sorry, just noticed this, it had to be manually "approved" because you posted it in an FAQ section (we'll move it to proper place, such as emergency forum...)

First: Give us as much info about your tank as possible and water parameters etc...
I recommend a separate medical treatment tank/tanks ..... I'm the type who prefers to do more than one treatment, ie salt, anti-fungus, anti-parasites, anti-bacteria AND you must make sure to keep optimum water quality and parameters with frequent water changes. (and 'try' to have fish eat something by trying various foods, its hard to get them to eat sometimes when they're sick....) IMPORTANT to increase water oxygenation during treatment, especially when temperature is raised....
