lost his color

Postby zengal on Sat Jan 12, 2002 7:39 pm

I have a parrot cichlid, about 2 years old, that in the last 2 days has lost most of its color. His name is Spot and he was orange with black spots. Now he's kind of cream colored and staying at the top of the tank. What could be the problem?

Well lose of color is usually a good sign that the fish is stressed out... as far as what is causing the stress that is trickier. You will want to test your water to make sure you arent having an ammonia or nitrite spike which would be major forms of stress. Also depending on how often you change your water your nitrates might be too high and causing a low level form of stress that is just now taking effect.

If you can get back to use with the test results from your water we could probably give you some better help, but maybe someone else will think of something I didnt.

hummm . . .Pale color, hiding out at the top of the tank. Both charachteristics of to high of a temp, and to low oxygen content . . .

check the temp and test the water. In the mean time add 1tbs aquarium salt to 10gal water to help aleve what is stressing him so.
