Jack Dempsey--Archocentrus Octofasciatus

TEMPERMENT They tend to be more docile and skittish. Males can be more aggressive than normal depending on the fishes personality. As with most cichlids the aggresion depends on each individual fish.

ADULT SIZE/GROWTH RATE: Males of this species tend to reach about 9-10 inches while females are normally 6-8 inches. They tend to grow about a half inch a month if well fed.

COMMON NAMES: Jack Dempsey

MINIMUM TANK SIZE: For a single male or female a 55 gallon is enough space, but with a pair a 75 gallons is best.

FEEDING:Jack Dempsey's are very messy eaters and requirer a lot of food. Most of their diet should consist of a quality cichlid pellet. The other part of their deit can be insects and worms. You can also feed beef heart which is easily obtained at any local butcher shop, but you must cut it up yourself.
