Is this a courting behavior?

Postby Ginnotjen on Mon May 17, 2004 5:36 pm

I have a 55 gal. tank full of cichlids, (each bought just a few months ago from the fish store) and I noticed that one of my larger cichlids will corner another cichlid (same one each time) in a gentle manor, and he (?) will extend his fins as open as possible and shake (as if to tremble). The other fish will have nothing to do with him. He also swims against the glass often and quickly. Is this a courting behavior? When he corners her, he does it in a gentle way, such as using his tail to coherse her into the corner without actually touching her. He never bites at her, etc., making me think he is trying to mate with her.
Any suggestions?

You have a courting male and female, well he is trying... she has to accept him though but probley will. So you have caves for them or un-used flower pots so they can lay the eggs? What kind of cichlids are they? it really depends on what they are to get them the right spawning sites.
