Is there anything else besides pellets???

Postby O'sareus on Sun Aug 19, 2001 7:44 pm

I have a red oscar and a Jack Demsey. They are both 11 inch (give or take with the JD)and live in a 75gallon tank. My O is going through a self-fish stage right now and won't share pellets with my JD. I have tried giving my O some pellets first on oneside of the tank and putting some pellets on the otherside. Don't work. Also my JD is very shy and doesn't come out when I am in the room.
Also when I do put pellets in they get into my gravel and cloud my water and I can still see residue from them. My filter is a fluval 404 I just bought it?? thanks so much

Hi O'sareus,

You could try feeding the oscar till it's stuffed and then feeding the jack. Have you tried feeding them any live fish? Some JD owners here may be able to help him make him be not so shy. Taking hiding places away may help, as well as feeding when he's "really" hungry. At last resort I guess you could use a tank divider for a while.

Yea I feed them live fish once a month and my JD eats those as far as I know. My O eats until she is full but she still won't let my JD eat pellets. Is there anything else I can feed them that won't cloud my water

Yea, I havn't fed my oscars pellets for a LONG time because of the mess it makes. I feed them frozen shrimp I buy at the store(meant for human consumption). I just stick it in the microwave for couple secs to melt the ice and then feed it to them. And I feed them goldfish once in a while.
