Hey Jeff, good to hear you're well enough to post! Oh yea, and get that thought out of your head, there's no such thing as a wuss with bullet-holes! As far as I'm concerned anyone who's been shot in the line of duty has done more (way more) than their fair share. So just do what's best for you and your wife period. I'm sure once you make that decision all your friends will support you. And yea, I'm with Jim, think if I were shot I'd probably start shooting first and ask questions later!! Smell a meth-lab? Just throw some grenades :D

Anyway, what are you on now just the morphine patches? Feeling better(ie no tremors, seizures, dizziness/vertigo, etc..) since quitting the meperidine protocol? I'm curious, since the docs told you the heart attack was because of hypertension/high blood pressure did they have data to support this? Keep eating fruits and veggies and keep well hydrated. Did you have an oximeter hooked up or a finger pulse oximeter? (Would be curious if oxygenation went down before that heart attack...)
Are you able to sleep ok? Try to keep the normal sleeping pattern if possible. (ie try to sleep at 8:30 or 9PM at night and sleep until 9AM or later...) It matters what time you sleep, certain hormones are only produced during certain hours of sleep so it's not just important how many hours you sleep but the timeframe as well.

Joe,

I do not remember much of anything during my last hospital stay. Im sorry I cant help you on the oximeter. I was hooked up to a machine the whole time reading my heartrate, 02 level and bp levels. Other then that sorry I dont remember. I still get dizzy allot and have minor shakes and cold sweats. Doctor has said their nothing to worry about and they will pass with my nemonia. as far as your answer to my question. AMEN, im absolutly scared to go back to work, more then I definatly let on. Your right aswell I am more concerned for my fellow brothers safety and the figutives. I still am not sure of the long lasting effects this whole ordeal will have on me. Of course I wont tell my wife or friends that. I am on a pure vegtable and fluid diet for the next 3 months. Today was the first good nights sleep I have had since the accident, I feel greatly rested and ready to play with my fish. I am no longer bed ridden altho my muscles are not strong enough for much I can get up and walk around my crutches, which is great concidering. I will be starting my phisical therapy back up in a week or so. I now have nurse who comes by every 2 days to give me a check-up. Dont tell my wife but the nurses at the hospital want me back :) their all so cute too. Makes me wanna move in there. On a more serious note. Appreciate you being honest with me like Jim was, I am more then likely not going to return to the force after this.

Great news, even though the suspect who shot me is dead, formal charges were released today for his record. #1 being Attempted murder of a police officer, #2 Assult with a deadly weapon, #3 Possession of methanphedamines with intent to distribut within 500 feet of a school, #4 Evading arrest. Several more charges are listed, around 12 in total. I am gonna get off of here and go meet Fuzzy for the first time, the fish not our friend on here. I have yet to view him up close.

Have a good day everyone,

Jeffery

Yea, eat your spinach Jeff, popeye knew what he was doing :D Anyway veggies and fruit are great but if you're a vegan for too long you may become deificient in some B vitamins etc....some eggs could be beneficial. Morphine has it's side effects also but it should be better than meperidine at least. Make sure you're well hydrated. (Opioid analgesics can cause hypotension (yea, surprised that heart attack was attributed to 'hypertension'), can make you dizzy when standing etc....)
Anyway, I think the problem with crime is that many times our justice system lets too many people get a way with murder! Figuratively and literally...I think the law should be tougher and more people convicted and sentenced. (Did the guy who shot you have any kind of police record prior to the shooting?) I remember an incident where some guy was attacked by some thugs in a subway or something like that and he shot like all of them dead or almost all. The law ended up prosecuting him I think. Personally, I think that the death penalty 'is' a deterrant and 'should' be used. Maybe we can get France to accept all our riff-raff, they and other Euros seem to be fond of protecting the rights of all sorts of criminals. Anyway, I digress...Hope you feel better every day!

Good news to hear that you're healing and getting better -- my family (3 kids, two grandkids, the wife) keeps asking me how you are. They can't believe I know someone so "cool". I tell them "It's time we look at police officers differently. Those folks put it all on the line for us --" Keep on healin', bro!

Your kids make me feel proud to be a police officer, there isnt much respect for them these days. I know there are bad-apples in all departments. I know its rare to see a cops accomplishments posted for everyone to read or hear, its hard to understand the deminer of a officer. Day in and day out we deal with drug addicts, abusers, killers and drug dealers who deal to kids. People see murder on the tv, a shooting gone bad from a cop and various other things but never the good. People are easy to make judgment on a police officer due to what they were taught on TV and other ways. Yes some officers write tickets, some are trained to shoot and kill. Many of us are here to help family's and their kids. We are rarely compared to a EMS, Firefighter or other branch of the city, but in realization we all do the same. Help the ones who at that time cant help themselves. Its actually terrible that more and more kids these days dislike cops and what they stand for. On that note I am retiring from the force due to the fact im afraid I wont be able to perform to the standard I once could. Infact I will be a reserve officer only called to duty in circumstances where I am needed. It still lets me keep my badge and help, just not full time. This goes into effect in June till then this is my job. Talking to my friends :) Mark give your kids a hug for me and let them know everything is alright and I appreciate the thoughts and gratitude.

God Bless,

Jeff

Jeff, good to hear you're doing better, hope the pain goes away for you so you can get rid of the med-drugs you still need to take. Once you're off, I've got some recommendations for you as to things to try...herbs, vitamins, to get your body to 100% ....
I know what you mean though by cops always being a little 'wired', they never know if the next guy they come in contact with is going to try to kill them or something.... I just try and make sure I'm not holding a screwdriver when I get pulled over these days ;) :D
