I think I'm getting an eel

Postby tug on Tue Mar 22, 2005 1:22 am

I found the most amazing eel at the LFS. I haven't decided 100% yet but it's looking pretty good at this point. It's a freshwater Moray eel. I'm still doing alot of research on this species just to arm myself a little better. The eel is acually a brackish water species but will live in freshwater for some time. I have a couple different tanks I can use. So I think I will get it and start it in freshwater while I get some more info on brackish set-ups. So any advice on a brackish system you might have this is your time to shine! I'll post some pics. soon!:D :D

All I know is that it's in between freshwater and saltwater. Haha. That was probably obvious.

Maybe this link will help.

Some eels get to over 3 feet in length so be careful of what kind of eel you're buying.

After doing tons of research on these eels I have decided that I'm not ready to dive into brackish set-ups yet. They require a ton of time to get ready and a ton of equipment I don't have. Plus the new species would be a big obligation. I just don't have the time to take this on right now. I do however appreciate the site Doc. I guess I'll have to pick your brain on another topic, another time. Thanks!

try a spiney eel (tire track also) their amazing fish, friendly have a nice personality and are quite easy going as tank mates for more robust fish.

their fresh water and grow to about a foot or 3 depending on the species
