freshwater barracuda?

anyone have any clue as to what species this is? i had one for a couple months, it died. ive seen hujeta gars advertised as them. thats not what i had. and at my lfs the ones there now have a red spot on the tail mine didnt. they eat only rosy red (very small) feeders. they also have teeth you can see. i want all the info i can get

I have never heard of a freshwater barracuda, however they are related to a similiar fish known as a Gar fish. That sounds like what you are describing. These fish are totally unsuitable for aquarium life. I once cought a gar that was 3 feet in length . . .you would need a huge tank to adequetly keep one happy.

does anyone know why one would have a red spot opposed to a black spot? is this possibly a type of morph?
