Fluttering and Scraping

I think that part of the water quality problem was overfeeding. I noticed that while I was treating them I fed them very sparingly because I didn't want to dilute the meds with water changes. So, I didn't do a water change for a week and the water was still really clear. I also noticed a lot less waste on the bottom.

I'm still learning! Hopefully I will have it all worked out before I move them to their 90 gallon.

Can anyone help me with how much I should be feeding them? I feed them the green Hikari little ball things. I usually give them 3-4 balls each 2 times a day. I try to give them 1 at a time to make sure they will eat them before I give them more. Are they getting enough?

Thanks everyone for helping me make my babies better and for all your help!

try the "red" hikary, seems like my cichlids like the red ones better, it's not just the color, they're different composition

What temperature do you set your heater? I've also read of people using table salts vs. the aquarium salt - what's your viewpoint on that? Thank you And, also, how long would you keep the temp higher?

Yea, good observations. Salt, higher temps etc do help. Main thing is having good ol' clean water all the time Image

Hi Dalene,

I've used 86F or even 88F. Don't go over 88F. Don't forget that warmer water holds less oxygen so requires better oxygenation. Also if you use salt don't forget that warmer water=more evaporation which means you need to be carefull with salt concentration since the salt did not evaporate with the water. Not sure about table salt, depends on what else it has in it, in low concentrations can't say i think it would be bad thing but don't try it since I havn't looked at the other ingredients in it yet Image but heck if it doesn't kill us it shouldn't kill the fish Image take care
