Postby Colon Lady on Mon Aug 06, 2001 1:12 pm

I am a new cichlid owner. I have one orange cichlid and one african oscar. What is the best type of food to feed them and how often should I feed them?

Feeding Cichlid

Postby oscar2001 on Tue Aug 07, 2001 3:16 am

Hi and welcome to the bbs

Cichlid is the catagory name of a fish species that covers a very large range.

Oscars are actually American cichlids so are you sure the orange cichlid isnt the african.

becarefull combining american cichlids with African cichlids as water conditions vary and as well as diet.
Oscars need a high protien vitamin rich diet of manley pellets (like the brand Hikari)

Where as a lot of African cichlids need a seperate diet of pellets based on vegetable matter (like the brand Wardleys Spirulina Sticks) Depending on what lake they come from and the particular breed of african if you feed them the wrong stuff they will get sick from not being able to digest the food.
Feed them what they can eat in 5 ninutes twice a day.

Dont let this throw you off as when you learn more about these things the easier it becomes.

If you need more info on anything please dont hesitate to ask.

Regards
